What Video Camera should I Buy? Beginning Film School!?
I wanna Know what kind of camera should i get.
budget is 1200.
one thats decent, respectable, easy to use.
i need details, reviews, anything that will help me with my decision.
thank you!
Would You use theses cameras you suggested? Or do you own them?
Sony is indeed good. But get recommendations from your film school – it may have particular requirements – you wouldn’t want to have to buy another camera just because yours doesn’t have one feature.
How do i make it in film directing?
am 14, and when i grow up i want to be a film director. What steps should i take in order to make it. Any books or websites are greatly appreciated. Thanks! ![]()
You could try doing some volunteer work at your local public access TV station, find out if they are covering things like City Council meetings, political debates, etc – stuff where you can get in and build up some experience on things like camerawork, audio, lighting, editing, etc. A lot of this stuff isnt really "exciting" but it needs to be done, and its particularly useful to have some real world experience on your resume.
Watch lots of movies, or TV, maybe even get a job at a theatre, where when you arent selling popcorn you can get free passes to watch the movies on the really big screen as many times as you like, the way they are meant to be seen.
Lots of DVD’s now have a "directors" cut – which often means that there is a supplemental audio track where the actual director talks throughout the entire feature – try listening to it, and see if it it makes sense when they explain why they did this or that. Worth a try.
Anything you study can be relevant to directing. If you want to make good science fiction, consider taking some some science classes, or maybe even get your degree in math, chemistry or physics. Lots of otherwise good sci-fi (story-wise) can simply fall flat on its face with issue in how they handle the "science" part. Lots of other shows, like 24, CSI, are highly involved with various kinds of technology.
What else can I say? Learn to dance. Learn Kung Fu. Become a master chef. There is a saying "Jack of all trades, but a master of none" – so maybe I am not saying that you need to become a martial arts master or anything, BUT unless you also have some basic acting experience AND know something more than a little bit of this or a little bit of that about a situation that you want to bring to life on film, then you wont make it as a director.
As a rule: stay away from most of those specialized "art schools" or other flim flam "flim shools" or anyone else that asks you to take out $50,000 in student loans promising instant results – at least until you had a few years at a traditional state college, community college or major university — so as to really know what you are shopping for, which is to say not that there arent some really good film acadamies out there – but it is rather quite a bit more likely that you would run into one of the other ones.
what is film direction aesthetics?
Questions a little unclear. Is this the title of a class?
A film director’s aesthetics would being his/her particular concept/ design, usually referring to the cinematography and visual look of a film. Each director has there own vision of a pleasing visual scheme, pacing, and feel of the film- hence their aesthetics.
How to get into film school out in California?
I want to become a film director once I complete my 4 years in the Marines. Is there alot of film schools out in Cali and how hard is it to get into them? I havent had many good grades in high school but am looking forward for the GI bill to pay for my schooling. I want to go to school full time
Dont know if am asking in the right place
I hate posting links but……..
http://www.gibill101.info/GI_Bill
Site is run by the Military, so all on the up and up. However you have to fill in all the info on 1st page then select schools and stuff on pages 2-4. Once that’s all done though it sets you up with all information you might need.
Anyways, fill out 1st 4 pages and the military website will answer all the questions.

PS Good Luck!
Where can if find film for my vintage bell and howell 252 8mm video camera? Anything else i might need?
I need blank film, so I can make some cool old school documentary film. Help is appreciated. Thanks!
Check the link below.
Make sure if you have Super 8mm or regular 8mm. I recommend giving them a call or email first, just to make sure that they are still around. Looks like they are, and that you can get all the film that you need. To safe yourself some $, I’d buy in bulk and put the extra film in the fridge.
Hope it helps!
What are some excellent Division 1 schools for film production/directing/writing?
Im also interested in possibly walking-on in a football program, so thats why I am asking about Division 1 schools. Im just so interested in film and writing!
Thank you.
It may not be a division 1 school, but Columbia College in Chicago is a very good "arts" school. I graduated from there in 1986. They have excellent film and writing programs, although no football team.
can anyone give me any ideas how to get jobs in new york? I am qualified in fitness training & film direction
First get experienced here and based on that find a sponsor/ advertisement and apply for foreign chances
How to get into film school in California?
I am joining the Marines soon and after my 4 years I plan on becoming a film director. My high school grades werent the best. Is there many film schools out there and how would one get into them. I want to go to film school full time. And am looking forward to the GI bill
California schools are expensive and living in CA is even more expensive. I don’t know much about GI bill but I fear that it may not be able to cover all of your tuition. Some film schools trains you not only on directing your own film but to write some of your own stories, produce your own films, and most importantly, find financial sponsors for your films. My opinion, in general, film making is very involved. Unless you come from a rich family, I am thinking you may not be able to keep a job to support yourself while you pursue the film degree. My advice to you is go to a regular university to get your four year degree in something else that you can fall back on while maybe double major in film or find any film productions at your school that you can be involved in, you know, to gain experience. As far as I know, experience and connections are more valuable than a degree in the film industry. Best of luck.
Bachelor of Art in Film and Video Production in the uk?
Hi guys
what are some good colleges for someone who wants to study film directing in the uk?(it could be any other place in Europe)
a good/well-known film school maybe?
Bournemouth Arts School
Westminster Harrow Uni
Uni of the Arts Ele and Castle was good but seems to be changing
Middlesex Uni
There are a few others but you need to watch the content as there arent really that many that ofer a lot of practical work and they are hard to get into. You should have the right background and some work to show.Go and visit the ones you think you’d be interested in as the emphasis changes considerably from one to another..some only documentaries!
