How does one get into film school after completing an undergrad degree?
I have an undergraduate degree in biology, but I want to go into film rather than med school.
How plausible is it to try to get into a graduate film school in this situation? How difficult or easy is it to get into film school in general? And would film school be a good idea for someone with little to no movie-making experience?
I’m looking to be a screenwriter or producer (but I’m not aiming as high as director just yet). I would also be interested in being a medical/technical advisor for a TV show or movie. Any advice would help.

I would recommend this school. It’s a trade school I went here for a while took a 8 week screen writing course and it was great. It also has a directing course and it is for anyone.

I would recommend that you first learn more about the careers in the business. A director handles the creative side and the producer handles the business side. A screenwriter is more of a freelance career. If your ultimate goal is to become a director you would start out as a production assistant and work your way up. If you want to become a producer than an MBA might help. I think USC has a masters program in thier film school for aspiring producers.

USC and UCLA both have film schools. Look into both and other UC’s and CSU’s. Usually it is Mass Communications at the other schools. Since you are changing majors, your coursework might not count toward the film Degree. You could apply them as electives if you can. You may have to complete all the upper division. Good luck.
