What’s a good video camera for a new filmmaker without film school experience?

Okay for real, when I use the camera I don’t want it to look like a home video. I’ve seen some indy films (vampire festival) and I dislike some of them b/c they look like they’ve been shot on a home video. What is that that I’m seeing? Or is there a program (on windows?) where you can alter the image of the video to make it look more film like, reality show like, etc.

Do you all get what I’m saying?
Prime example okay there was this group that did a video and it was on Mtv. Now when they performed on tour they showed the video but it looked sorta Grindhouse like it was an old film from the 60s. It was awesome.

I’m clueless and probably shoudl go to film school, but I guess my question is what is making the footage look different?

First of all, don’t go to film school. Go to the movies and be inspired. Secondly, just buy a movie camera, and alter how the image appears on your computer. It’s really simple. Or turn to animation or something else if it doesn’t take your fancy.

good luck.
